The Wood Awards, established in 1971, to give prizes for excellence in architecture and product design using wood, are celebrating their 45th anniversary this year.
In the furniture and product category, there were an impressive 182 entries, 12 of which have been shortlisted including cabinets, benches, stools and extendable dining tables.
Most intriguing for anyone who is currently involved in a kitchen overhaul or redesign are the Pantori (c, above), a free-standing pantry larder with additional work space made from European oak and English ash, designed by Steph Leake an intern at Jack Badger Ltd; the Planks Collection table (r) made from full-width planks of European oak and British Douglas fir which incorporate hidden storage for table-top clutter, designed by Max Lamb for Benchmark; and the stackable flow chair (l) by T.n.a Design for Ercol, a modern dining chair made from European beech, steam-bent into sinuous flowing lines.
Winners in all categories will be announced at a reception to be held at Carpenters’ Hall in the City of London on 22 November
